Excursion Report – Cassowary Coast long excursion, held 22nd to 25th August 2025

This excursion planned to visit two coastal areas in the tropics of northeastern Queensland; the Cassowary Coast from 10th to 21st August and Cape Hillsborough from22nd to 25th August. This workshop attracted 25 attendees excluding speakers, and fulfilled the workshop goals with much positive feedback being received. Global biodiversity is being lost at an unprecedented rate and action must be taken to combat this trend. Invertebrates comprise nearly 99% of all animal diversity and are becoming extinct at an alarming rate. Of the 693 recorded extinctions of animal species since 1500 AD, 42% are molluscs and 99% of these are non-marine species.
