EASTER CAMP 2026

Participants may arrive from 2pm Thursday 2nd April, and depart no later than 10 am Tuesday 7th April.  A guided ‘recce’ with the landowners will be held the first weekend of March, and further information will be provided after this.

LOCATION

Weranga Scarps is a freehold block close to 50 ha in extent located in the Western Downs of Queensland approximately 70 km southwest of Dalby, and about 30 minutes’ drive southeast from Tara.  The property is approximately 3.5 hors drive from Chermside, one of Brisbane’s northern suburbs.  More detailed location and driving directions will be provided after the recce.

FLORA AND FAUNA

The property is owned by Wildlife Land Fund Ltd and supports a complexity of vegetation communities in a relatively small area. Various eucalyptus and angophoras predominate the forests and woodlands with shrubby and or grassy understoreys. Acacias and she-oaks are conspicuous in certain ecosystems. Dense calytrix heathlands occur on ephemeral wet areas.

Weranga Scarps Nature Reserve is home to several threatened wildlife species, including the glossy black-cockatoo, Yakka skink, golden-tailed gecko (pictured in header) and koala.

More than 127 species of birds have been recorded, including the speckled warbler, hooded robin, various honeyeaters, Pacific Baza and other raptors.

Resident mammals observed include the yellow-footed antechinus, stripe-faced dunnart, sugar glider and inland brushtail possum.

Reptiles, such as the spotted black snake and common scaly-foot, are among the many species that call this nature reserve home. Amphibians are plentiful after rain, with salmon-striped frogs and eight other frog species seen in the area during wet conditions.

CAMPING

The size of camping area may limit the number of participants camping on-site, and some participants might prefer to camp at the caravan park in Tara and make the 30-minute drive to the property each day.  Further information will be provided following the recce.

No drinking water is available at the property, and all participants will need to be self-sufficient with their own water.

ACTIVITIES

Activities during the camp will be informed by the property owners’ knowledge of the reserve, and the weather.
